Week3r

Third week of Public relations class to some students simply means third chapter they have to sit until late hours of the night reading, or for some it may be skimming; a term I’ve used for college students, which basically means looking at the bold printed words.  However, I would have to say the most important thing I have learned now being a third year college student, is to READ all chapters assigned from your professors for the class!
Now I know this would sound crazy to any fellow college student reading this because most are products of our generation and are naive to what actually carefully reading something means. However, I cannot say the same for myself. Now tying this into the actual assignment, though I would begin with a little introduction for my blogs first, I realized how much I really have grasped a hold of from all the assignments I have been told to read from my courses taken.
Specifically applying this concept to my major and now taking higher level courses, you realize… “Wow my professors really were right! Who would have known a teacher can actually teach you something if you do what’s required.” Congrats mom and dad, your money is paying off!!
Newswritting, a two hundred level class, is specifically the class that made me realize this. As I was reading and again going over the concepts the next day in class, I realized I had read a lot of the concepts talked about before. DUN DUN DUN…. In my newswritting class taken last winter semester!!
It was nice to already have a general idea of what the concepts explained were. What I enjoy about the Kent textbook is it goes into very in-depth detail about each element of visual elements. My text for newswriting was more of an overview and introduction. It made it interesting to be reading and actually understanding the concept before hand. This way it was reading as if you were getting more detail about a specific subject of visual mediums and the differences between many. For example, the section on brochures was the most thought provoking for me. I have completed an internship for a company who had me creating various brochures. I enjoyed getting to know the public relations side and how they specifically use brouchers in campaigns, since this is the specific field I plan to go into.
Stay tuned for my blog next week about new discoveries I have by simply doing what most college kids don’t put in the time too… in-depth reading! Trust me fellow classmates, it’s worth your while ;)
